Over the Summer we were able to get a great campsite at the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park and we explored this amazing part of Northern California.  Words really can’t describe the majesty of these giant Coastal Redwoods, the tallest trees in the world.  I found myself feeling thankful that Save the Redwoods League had the foresight to protect a part of what was left of these ancient forests back in 1918.  Of the original 2 million acres only about 4% remain, most in the State and National Park systems.

Sometimes I have an idea or a “vision” of a photograph in my mind.  It may come in a dream or maybe it is an amalgamation of other things I have seen.  I might store the image in my mind for years, just waiting for the opportunity to make it happen.  This was one of those times.  I had an idea of what I wanted to shoot in this forest so I got up before light one morning and set out on the breathtakingly beautiful Damnation Creek Trail in the Summer fog in hopes of finding it.  This morning I was all alone in my own Shangri-La; in this warm, misty, silent slice of heaven.  And I got the shot, many shots in fact.  Some looked like the one in my mind but there were plenty more to be had as well.
