Northern New Mexico is magnificent but in a subtle way, like when you hear a beautiful song and tears well up in your eyes but you can’t say exactly why. Much has been said about Taos – the artists, the skiing, the food, and of course the Taos Pueblo which has been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years. When I am there I feel like I went back in time and to a different country, but not to Spain or Mexico. Maybe it is the light, or the people or the terrain, I’m not sure. This trip was only overnight but it was a rich experience I will never forget. I decided to break it up into a few parts, starting with Taos, because there are so many photos.
Mountains South of Taos, my friend Ina was born on the other side –
Dance Hall –
Rio Grande gorge during a storm –
Straight down from the Highway 64 bridge, I was hoping for rain because the colors are much richer –
Tres Orejas in the distance –
Crepuscular rays (or “God beams”) before sunset –
Spectacular Will.
Ahhhhhh…so lovely. Magical isn’t it?
So beautiful! You really captured the drama of the landscape!
Thanks for the kind comments! Thought of you Carltons when I was there….
Will,
great Rio Grande Gorge Pics. Curious if you went up the road to see that crazy commune: spacecraft ranch or something like that.
Hey Todd, didn’t make it there but I discovered it later when I was researching the area. I can see why people go there, amazing country.
